Two shallow earthquakes exceeding a magnitude of 3.0 were recorded near Mauna Loa’s summit this week.
According to U.S. Geological Survey, a 3.1-magnitude quake occurred at a depth of 1.4 miles at about 1:30 p.m. Friday.
That was preceded by a 3.3-magnitude temblor at a depth of 1.6 miles about noon Wednesday.
Both were located about 3.6 miles south-southwest of the volcano’s summit.
